'Why is my 7-month-old kitten SO massive??' Regular tiny kitten that person adopted grows bigger and bigger, making them wonder if he's just a "huge cat" or if he's too chonky

Ah, the mystery that is a kitten. You never know, when a cat is still that small, exactly what they are going to turn into. And although most times, they just turn into regular ol' cats, that's not always the case. Sometimes, a kitten that is born tiny never grows bigger, and you find out that your kitty has drawfism and will stay small forever. Other times, the normal kitten you adopted doesn't stop growing, and you realize that you adopted a Maine Coon cat or a Norwegian Forest cat. 

And sometimes, like this time probably, the kitten you adopted grows and grows and grows, and all you are left with is… a regular cat that is just a little bigger than most. Not a Maine Coon, not a unique cat in any way. Just a big cat. And a big cat like this one is not something to be concerned about. It's something to celebrate, because although it means that the shenanigans will be twice as big, it also means that you will have twice as much cat to cuddle.

  • Look, if you are legitimately worried, then we are all for you going to the vet, getting him properly weighed, and talking to your vet about his size. But, in our very unpurrfessional opinion… some cats are just big. And that is something pawsome. The bigger the cat, the more cat there is to cuddle with.

    Lost-Swing-2942 yeah, he definitely doesn't need a diet. my ex's mom had a cat just like this, he was literally giant and his sister (which she also had) was normal sized. strange, but nothing wrong.

  • That pretty much sums it up for us. But you know what? The owner being worried is not a bad thing. It shows that they care. It shows that they are going to take care of this kitty properly his whole life. And we think that's pretty heckin' great.

    aestheticathletic My adult male cat is almost 15 lbs, and he's not fat - he's just big. Go to the vet once per year for a checkup and they will let you know if he's being overfed

    marthmaul83 I have 4 giant cats from one litter, my bfs family took in 2 each from other litters. They are all massive. Everyone always makes a comment about their size. And none are crazy fat (except one guy but he is a bottomless pit and needs to be on a strict diet).

    Two guys were 12-13 lbs, one guy is 14lbs and the other is 22 lbs. but their frames are just gigantic. Here's a 150lbs person with two of them.
